Vastu Consultation Services for Homes, Apartments, Offices and Shops
Vastu Shastra is the traditional Indian science of space and direction, which aims to align a building’s layout with natural forces so the people inside feel settled and supported. I’m Arjun, a Sydney-based Vastu consultant and Vedic astrologer, and I provide Vastu consultations online for homes, apartments, offices and shops across Australia and worldwide.
What Is Vastu Shastra?
The word Vastu comes from the Sanskrit for a dwelling or site. Vastu Shastra maps a property onto the Vastu Purusha Mandala, a grid that links each direction with particular elements and qualities. A few of the key zones:
- Ishanya (north-east): associated with water and clarity; traditionally kept light, clean and uncluttered.
- Agneya (south-east): the fire zone, traditionally preferred for the kitchen.
- Nairutya (south-west): associated with earth and stability; suited to the main bedroom and heavier furniture.
- Vayavya (north-west): the air zone, linked to movement and change.
- Brahmasthan (centre): the heart of the home, ideally kept open and unobstructed.
Does Vastu Work for Australian Homes?
Vastu directions are compass directions, and I apply the classical principles as they are written. What differs in Australia is practical: the sun tracks across the northern sky, so north-facing rooms are usually the brightest and warmest, and many homes are built around open-plan living areas rather than separate rooms. I take these realities into account when suggesting how to use each space, and I focus on changes that suit modern Australian houses and apartments rather than calling for a rebuild.
Vastu Services
Vastu for Homes
For houses, I review the main entrance, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and toilets, living areas, the puja or meditation space and the centre of the home. You receive clear, prioritised recommendations, starting with simple adjustments – furniture placement, colours, lighting and decluttering – before anything structural is considered.
Vastu for Apartments and Units
Apartments bring their own questions: you can’t move the front door or the kitchen, and the building’s orientation is fixed. I work within those limits, using the layout of your unit to suggest practical corrections that suit renters and owners alike. My apartment Vastu guide covers common situations.
Vastu for Offices and Commercial Spaces
For offices, I look at the entrance, the placement of the owner’s or manager’s desk, reception, meeting rooms, storage and the flow of people through the space, so the layout supports focus and good decision-making.
Vastu for Shops and Retail
For shops, the focus is on the entrance, the cash counter, display areas, stock storage and how customers move through the premises.
How Does an Online Vastu Consultation Work?
- Send your floor plan. A builder’s plan, strata plan or clear hand-drawn sketch with the rooms labelled is fine.
- Record the compass directions. Stand near the centre of the property or just inside the main door, away from metal and appliances, and note which way the entrance faces using a phone compass.
- Share photos. Photos of the entrance, kitchen, bedrooms, centre of the home and surroundings help me see how each space is actually used.
- Analysis. I map the plan onto the Vastu Purusha Mandala and assess each zone, the entrance and the centre.
- Recommendations. We discuss the findings online, and you receive practical corrections ranked by priority, with simple, low-cost changes first.
Consultations are carried out from your floor plan, photos and compass directions. On-site options can be discussed on request. Many useful corrections cost nothing at all – see my zero-cost Vastu corrections guide for examples.
What I Look At in Every Property
- whether the main entrance falls in a supportive zone;
- the slope of the land and how the property sits relative to roads and neighbouring buildings;
- where natural light and shade fall through the day;
- the shape of the plot or floor plan, including missing or extended corners;
- the placement of the kitchen, bedrooms, toilets and water sources;
- whether the centre of the home is open or blocked.

Vastu FAQs
Do I need to renovate to follow Vastu?
Rarely. Most issues can be eased with non-structural changes – moving furniture, adjusting colours and lighting, relocating a desk or bed, or clearing a cluttered zone. I always suggest the simplest effective corrections first and only raise structural options when they are genuinely worth considering, such as during a planned renovation or new build.
Can Vastu help if I’m renting an apartment?
Yes. Renters can’t change walls or doors, but they can decide how each room is used, where the bed and desk sit, and how each zone is arranged and decorated. These choices can make a real difference to how a home feels, and none of them require structural work or changes to the property itself.
Do you visit the property in person?
My consultations work from your floor plan, photos and compass directions, which means I can help clients anywhere in Australia or overseas. If you feel an on-site visit would be useful, mention it when you book and we can discuss the options.
Is Vastu religious?
Vastu has its roots in Indian tradition, but its core ideas – orientation, light, air flow, uncluttered spaces and a calm centre – are practical and can be applied by anyone, whatever their background. You don’t need to follow any particular faith to use a thoughtful Vastu review.
